Kevin Coval is many amazing things: a teacher, a writer, a poet, an organizer, a mentor, one who inspires many, and an individual I'm proud to call my friend.

The Language of Language is written, designed, read and produced by Elizabeth Eva Coleman © December 2010 . This is my capstone project from my bachelor's degree work at the University of Utah. I created this book out of my love for the intimate relationship forged between a physical book and the reader combine with my passion for rhetoric as well as audio production's ability to transcend emotional boundaries.

Using the Willie Perdomo Poem "Where I'm From" as a creative prompt, our students wrote poems to share where they come from and where they are coming from: their neighborhoods, homes and worldviews. After recording the poetry in small groups using digital voice recorders and shotgun microphones, students used Final Cut Pro to edit the piece with music and sound effects.

This is the audio recording that accompanies my book, "The Language of Language." The book can be read alone or with the additional audio here. When you hear the tone, turn the page.

This is a remix by Chicago teens working at YOUmedia at the Chicago Public Library's downtown Harold Washington Library Center. Fatimah and Jabari put this together as a part of One Book One Chicago's "a Mercy" by Nobel Prize winner Toni Morrison.
