Wayne County Training School was located in Northville Michigan. Opened in 1926, it set the stage for ground breaking studies of so called "Feeble Minded" children.

Plauged with scandal it closed in 1974. I discovered its abandoned grounds in 1980. 27 years later it is still remembered by dozens of others that appreciated its peaceful and beautiful grounds.

The first video is all super8mm film taken in the early 1980's. the last 2 are my final trip to the grounds in 1991.#1   Vintage 1980's Film A collaberation of the oldest film footage we have. Shot on super 8mm by Jeff Archer and Myself in the early to mid 1980's. 60Mb#2   Final Visit Part 1Part 1 of my last visit to the tunnels. 90Mb#3   Final Visit Part 2Part 2 of my last visit to the tunnels. 72Mb

I am trying to find others

I am trying to find others that were at WTCS from 1957 to 1959. My name is Louis Teal, a white male sent there by my parents. My Father moved me there from Alabama in 1956 or 57, I'am not sure. He worked the night shift at Ford and my step-mother did not want me around. So she had my Father put me in WTCS. He paid monthly for my 14/20 mo' stay. I was in most of the cottages, including cottage 13, also known as BOOT HILL. Thats where the trouble maker's got sent to for several weeks to atone for their screw-up. I can only remember one of the cottage father's, he name was Mr.Robinson. He had a son about my age, and took him along on one of our yearly camping trips on the river, his son and I became friends on the trip. I have tons of other info from my stay, but no one to share it with. Would really like to chat with someone else that day-dreamed for hours on end while they walked back and forth with pieces of army blanket's under their feet to shine the floors. This is my first attemp to relive the hell of WTCS.Don't get me wrong. I have some good memories also. I am retired from the aerospace industry and living in Tampa, FL. My e-mail address is PalmRiver9@aol.com. Plese feel free to contact me. Thanks, Louis

A-mazing

This videos are great. There are many places I have wanted to explore, but have been to afraid of getting caught. The only place I have visited was Manteno State Hospital, and this was after the larger buildings had all been knocked down. It was still great. There is a large vacant factory in Kankakee that I worked near that I wish I had visited. Its the old Quaker-General Foods mill. It looks like there are plenty of ways to get in and it has only been abandoned for about ten years, so its pretty safe.
