This was on Day #6 of a bike trip that will probably take around 70-80 days. I started in New York City on July 24th and hope to make it to Seattle, WA around early to mid-October. I'm currently in Chicago, staying with my girlfriend for a week, until I head back on the road some time this weekend.

On the Air!

We played this installment of the series we're now calling The Bicycle Diaries on the air yesterday. Here's the playlist. Here's the piece with our collaboratively produced frame. Thanks again, Matt! We'll be playing Day 27 on the air Saturday.

The Soothing Sounds of a Rainstorm

I used to listen to a tape that sounded just like your rainstorm ---Soothing Sounds of Nature, or something--before going to sleep. This tape had a macaw that I think was interested in the microphone and would scream into it just as I was drifting off.

I look forward to more audio updates. May you stay dry and macaw free, friend.

Travelogue

I second Wendy's question. Do you plan on recording more of these? Total serializing potential here...adventures from the road. The field recording element comes across really well, and I like your observations. I'd love to hear more detail about what you're doing day to day...who you're seeing, where you're riding, what the terrain is like...all the kinds of details that will make us feel like we're there with you on your trip. Add that to the field recordings and you've got a golden travelogue.

As a side note, I've done my share of bicycle touring and I totally relate to being caught in the rain. Maybe I should take a note of inspiration from you and record a story about my disaster trip up to Montreal last year. It involved rain, an angry racoon, and 2 trips to the hospital!

What an adventure

Thanks so much for sharing this stop on your trip with us.  Will you continue to share your travelogue as you are able?  We'd love to hear it (and maybe broadcast? .) The sound of the rain  and thunder is just perfect .
