Ugochi Nwaogwugwu“African Buttafly” Ugochi and The SJS Trio are taking over the world. Ugochi’s sound has been described as “lively, energetic music that makes your feet move and heart think. The lead-singing-international-sensation is a diverse writer, singer and performer. Her musical interests span all corners of the globe. Ugochi was born to Nigerian parents in Chicago. She credits both worlds with being the catalyst for her unique word, sound power and singing ability. Chicago Music Awards classified her as "Best African Entertainer 2005," for her self-produced album that has created an underground buzz all over the world. She has an amazing powerhouse of players within "the Village" band that have created an original sound reverberation she has cleverly coined "AfroSoul," a raw mixture of African rhythms with soul influenced melodies reminiscent of Chicago's dusties era.
Ugochi’s music has allowed her to travel to many countries in Europe, including performing her extremely individualized form of sound power in Paris, Nigeria, Amsterdam, London, Ghana, Leeds, Brasil, Italy and Jamaica. She has been featured on WTTW’s Wild Chicago and Artbeat Chicago, WXRT, WGN Morning Show, as well as performed with acclaimed artists such as Common, Malik Yusef, J. Ivy, Eric Benet, Michael McDermott, Edwin McCain, Maxi Priest, Umphrey’s McGee, John Legend, Femi Kuti, Shaggy, Wayne Wonder, Alison Hinds and Stephen Marley.
