Guests throughout the week will include:

January Editorial: Manners

  • Monday, January 11, 8 to 8:30 a.m. Snooping is bad manners.  But we let the government do it.  Sometimes.  How much is too much? A few months ago, federal officials backed off from a proposal to use "full body scan" technology at airports.  People called the devices "digital strip searches." Then, on Christmas, a guy tried to blow himself up on a flight to Detroit, and lots of people wanted to know why he hadn't been scanned, and why we didn't have more scanners. A few days later, officials announced that scanners were coming to O'Hare ASAP. The Electronic Privacy Information Clearinghouse, where our guest Jared Kaprove works, has led the charge against the use of body-scanners.
