What I'm Big Screenin':Is there even a question here? Ridley Scott, Denzel Washington, Russell Crowe, that one Black dude who's name even he can't pronounce (Chiwetel Ejiofor,) Josh Brolin, Common, RZA and an older lady doing a great Ruby Dee ... wait THAT IS Ruby Dee!!! Wait for it - "If there is one movie to see this weekend - it's American Gangster." Look, not only has it been labeled as this generation Scarface (Black or otherwise) just take 10 minutes and read the article about the real Frank Lucas that started the whole idea for the movie, and then tell me you don't want to see it. http://nymag.com/nymetro/news/people/features/3649/ What I'm Not Even Theater Hoppin' Into:While listening to extra-terrestrial radio the other day (the opposite of terrestrial radio, right?) a sidekick on a talkshow (so vital to talk show success, hint-hint) mentioned something about Jerry Seinfeld that lead me to do some research. Okay, so it's pretty much public knowledge that this darling of American comedy and television once dated a 17-year old while in his mid/late thirties, which I would figure to be creepy enough to people, but did you know his current wife dated him up to her marriage to another man (which she pushed for,) and cut the honeymoon short to come running to Jerry? Somehow this is okay with Oprah, as she has not had them on her show, but she also has a part in his new Bee Movie. It'll probably hit number 1 this weekend because it has a broader audience (versus American Gangster's R rating) and everyone just loves Seinfeld (right?) I wouldn't accept a free screener copy from Five-Dollar Deon, my bootleg guy. Where I'm Hangin':Wal-Mart and then Best Buy. Rumor had it that Wal-Mart was going to drop an HD-DVD player for $199 right around Christmas shopping time. New rumor has it that they're dropping a $99 version sometime this weekend. Best Buy has said they will match the best price found. I don't even own an HDTV right now, but I expect to well before the prices of these players are this low consistently. Blu-Ray is supposed to be doing something similar at some point, but I like my Blu-Ray packaged inside of a PS3, so I'm not checking for that right now. What I'm Munchin' On':I've got a kid who isn't even 2 yet that got to go trick-or-treating on Wednesday. She's not old enough to eat all that candy, so the responsibility has to fall to someone ...What I'm Sportin' About:The Bears have a bye week (thank goodness) at just the right time - and not because they're limping in at 3-5. The Bulls look promising this year and despite a tough season opening loss, basketball teams tend to visually gel and come together as the season progresses. I'm happy that Paxson at least publicly put the kibosh on the Kobe trade talks. They're probably still discussing possibilities behind closed doors, but at least the players on both teams can relax a little bit, now that there is public denial. I'd love to have Kobe, but I think the Bulls can truly compete without him, as long as they attach a an electric collar to Gordon's neck so they can zap him everytime he tries that wack cross-over or takes one of those ill-advised rainbows. What I'm Wearin':Sadly enough, winter coats. It may be sunny outside, but summer is gone folks. You know once the flu vaccine signs start going up at your local Jewels (sic) that winter is not too far off in the distance. I've already fought some kind of illness thanks to a sudden weather change, and I'd rather not fight another. Do people still wear puffy coats? I'm actually surprised at the number of winter coat options I have. From the classy-looking peacoat to the gray and black neoprene Aspen jacket, I like to vary my coats based on the attire I've got on underneath. What I'm Playin':Actually got a chance to mess around with the Nintendo Wii a couple wiiks ago (I couldn't resist that.) While the Wii Sports Pack had it's moments (the bowling and tennis games were pretty cool) the were other elements of it that weren't as hot (the baseball game was uber-lame.) With Guitar Hero on the horizon and a number of other games that are multi-platform (playable on more than just one console,) I can see why some people like it - especially if they have a lot of kids in the house. As a grown man and the sole gamer in my house, I'm going to stick with the PS3 though.
