PearlFest2008
Little Black Pearl will host its outdoor festival entitled Pearl Fest 2008. The festival is Sunday, June 8, 2008, 11am to 10 pm and will be held on Greenwood Avenue from 47th to 45th street. The neighborhood celebration is free to the public and will incorporate a mixture of live musical entertainment, sidewalk café, food, fun and activities for all ages.
After a six year hiatus, Pearl Fest 2008 will be the very first festival hosted at the new Little Black Pearl Art and Design Center. A major attraction during Pearl Fest is a concert featuring local and national talent. With performances on the BET soundstage from superstars George Duke and Chante Moore, the Pearl Fest will be as successful as past festivals, with an expected attendance of over 5,000 people.
Little Black Pearl (LBP) is an innovative non-profit organization that provides community-based networks designed to empower youth and adults with art, education and entrepreneurship skills. For the past three years, Little Black Pearl has used both visual arts and it’s Arts=Smarts after school program as a means to highlight important issues in the community such as health, nutrition, effective prevention for youth and community development. This year Pearl Fest will showcase LBP’s efforts, along with local partners, to bring awareness and action to these issues.
As a means of expressing thanks to the community for over 14 years of support, Little Black Pearl presents Pearl Fest 2008 to celebrate it’s community partnerships and continued effort to provide safe, positive programs to the community. Little Black Pearl is excited to re-introduce Pearl Fest as a community celebration. During the neighborhood festival, community members can purchase fine art from LBP students, staff, and local artists and receive information from local organizations and health agencies.
