How important is art? Does it contribute to a community and improve lives, or is it wasteful, because we could spend resources better on meeting peoples' basic needs?
jesnhardy:
It's always important. Art is often used in order to raise money for awareness and charity.
sarah.e.lu:
what about the art in itself? how do public art projects benefit the people?
Luis:
art shows how "advanced" a society has become... water, food, shelter... art comes after all the stuff we need as a society.
You can't have art unless you have the time to create it.
sarah.e.lu:
do you think it's right to spend city resources on creating art when there are folks who don't have food and shelter?
sarah.e.lu:
can people who don't have that stuff appreciate art?
