Contemplating Life was slow to come to life.I had the first two chords and strumming pattern at first.I played this constantly for several days searching for the next chord. Then four more chords came to me.In the meantime I recorded two other songs but I kept coming back to this one.It needed another section(a bridge).I would play it over and over between takes of other songs we were working on.The piano player on the song(Tyler Grubbs)commented to me,"Man thats a sad song, but it is pretty too".So a few days later the bridge came to me,a long bridge with lots of changes, six chords in all, then back to the beginning melody. At last it was complete.I taught it to Tyler and within an hour or so he had his accompany piano part ready.I wanted to record it live,me strumming the guitar and Tyler on the piano. We got all set up, the piano and guitar miked, set the levels and began to play.Four hours later we had a live recording of the song.My fingers had grooves in them from playing all those chords over and over. There are a couple of minor slip ups on my part but I was pleased with the 8th take.We mixed it,edited it and declared it finished. Some songs come easier than others.Even though this one turned out to be a chore it is one of my favorites.
