Maranda Marie Forney was born in Camden, New Jersey, January 2, 1969. At the age of eight, Maranda and her family relocated to Chicago, Illinois. As a child she studied voice and piano and for a brief moment was a member of a teen recording group for a major secular recording label. Spring of 1987, Maranda won the title of "Miss Alla Baba," 1st runner-up "Miss Cupidette," and was introduced into society as a Victory Matron Debutante.
In May of 1990 Maranda met her husband, Michael Calvin Forney in Columbus, Ohio. In September of the following year, they both received Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior under the ministry of Bishop Brian Keith and Prophetess Donna Williams and were married two weeks later. While a member of All Nations Church, Maranda participated on the Praise & Worship team, ANC Choir and performed several special selections.
Maranda and Michael reside in the Chicagoland area with their seven beautiful children. After the birth of their last child, Johanna Joy, Maranda began to experience upper abdominal pain. The nurse indicated that Maranda may have gall bladder disease which is common after giving birth. She gave Maranda Regland for the vomiting and Pepcid for the pain. Suddenly Maranda began to vomit violently and knew that something was wrong. Within seconds she stopped breathing and had no pulse. The nurse yelled for help and a team of doctors and nurses entered the room to try and revive Maranda. Amazed, Maranda could hear everything that was going on in the room. She began to talk to God asking, "Is this what it feels like to die?" After a conversation with God, Maranda said, "Lord, I am ready to go home but I really don't want to leave Mike to raise all the children by himself." Suddenly, Maranda could open her eyes but could not move any part of her body. She found herself in a CAT Scan machine hooked to a breathing machine and heparin pump. The doctors informed her that she may have suffered from a stroke but they were running tests until Maranda shared with them that she heard everything that was said and repeated word for word back to the doctors. They were all speechless. She spent a week in ICU when one of the doctors informed Maranda that she had been given a paralytic instead of Pepcid. Many have asked, "Why didn't she sue the nurse, doctors and hospital?" Maranda's response, "If my God is all-powerful and all-knowing then he knew and allowed this experience to happen for a reason. I need to find out what message God is trying to get across to me." From that day forward, everything about Maranda changed. It was no longer about her but about serving others. "The King will reply, 'Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.'" Matthew 25:40
Maranda and Michael are members of Life Changers International Church, pastored by Pastors Gregory and Grace Dickow. Maranda's background vocals can be heard on several projects including, "Loose Control" by Tom Bynum and "Without Faith I'm Nothing" by Rossi Howard. Maranda's motto and favorite scripture, "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me," Philippians 4:13, has empowered her to be all that God has called her to be: A SERVANT!
