If you don't, is it for ethical reasons (like avoiding animal cruelty), health reasons (avoiding hormones found in meat), or otherwise? Or if you do, why...or is it even a question?

yup see it saved her life. too much good stuff from animals :)
I was vegetarian for many years but then became extremely ill and weak from an illness that tore my body apart. Doctors then encouraged me to eat eggs and meat in order rebuild my body. Especially since I had grown up eating meat, my body was looking for those nutrients to rebuild. And it did help. But then I was in a dilemma because I had avoided it for so long with conviction. Eventually, I realized that if I was going to eat it, I had to appreciate its source. I am extremely mindful of wasting food especially meat and consciously realize that I am being fed by another being. I cannot make a strong arguement for either side since I have been on both. But I can say that appreciating my food (and what it does for our bodies in this existence) has helped through the whole struggle of whether or not to eat it.
i agree with navraaz with appreciating where your food comes from, i think it makes the difference when choosing to eat meat. AND (i'm probably responding in the wrong place) that's not the alpaca that i ate. there are like, 10 that stroll around machu picchu all day long & let you pet them. but i tried some at a restaurant on machu picchu... so who knows. & yup, they're pretty much just llamas.
yummy looks like a llama
I DONT FEEL GUILTY IM NOT KILLING IT IM JUST SURVIVING. THERE IS SIMPLY THINGS U CAN GET FROM MEAT U CANNOT GET FROM JUST VEGGIES AND NON MEAT. I AM A ANIMAL LOVER I ALSO HAVE A DOG BUT I DO LIKE MEATS... I THINK THE ORIGINAL FAMILY FROM THE 70S VERSION OF TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE SHOULD HAVE INPUT ON THIS...
i do eat meat, mostly because it was the way i was raised, and i can't really imagine my diet without it; it's habitual. i saw chickens being slaughtered when i was staying in zimbabwe, and it phased me to the point where i thought i would never eat chicken again. two days later i had chicken and wasn't really worried about it. the weirdest meat i've tried was alpaca, two weeks ago when i was in machu picchu (peru). the most traditional & popular meats in the region are guinea pig and alpaca. the weird thing about eating alpaca was that i'd been taking photos of them earlier that day. i'd also been petting them. i felt guilty enough to not finish the small bite i'd taken. but it pretty much tasted like pork.
