The Cta and Metra received $530 million dollars to prevent the doomsday cuts that would have stopped transit service for thousands of Chicagoans. The new approved proposal will allow senior citizens to ride for free. The free rides will provide a $20 million dollar shortfall next year in the transit budget. When will our government ever learn? The citizens are tired of legislators that can't solve problems and manage government affairs properly! Would it not have made more sense to charge senior's 1/2 price or even keep their transit fares the same as they are now. This way we will not have a loop hole in the budget next year. Just a thought.

Interesting thought. A lot of people have speculated as to why Blagojevich suggested the 'seniors ride for free'. What do you think his ultimate motive is?
I think he is trying to rebuild his image. He has taken a lot of hits by his collegues and the press. He may be indited on illegal campaign deals. Also, I think he really wants to give senior's and the disable some finacial relief. To the Governor running such a large budget like Illinois, $20 million is just a drop in the bucket. However, they should stop thinking this way and start balancing the budget (really balancing).
