if oprah's support means obama wins, it'll be a coup for both blacks and women. 'cause oprah would then be the king maker, if not the power behind the throne. the thing is oprah's gender betryal of hillary proves the obvious: politically speaking oprah is black first and woman second. that's the thing.

From what I have seen, Oprah is showing her true self as she is assisting in Obama's campaign. In terms of what she has supported on a personal level, Oprah has always been a big supporter of the African American community. Her show caters to an audience that may not match her personal ideals or ambitions. I think it is an obvious move for her to be supportive of Obama rather than Hillary. As for supporting women, coming from a country that has had many female leaders already (India), gender doesn't play a role in how a country is run. India has benefited the most from electing people from minority backgrounds into power rather than electing people based on their gender. I think its anti-feminist to say that women still have to prove their ability to lead. That means that we refuse to acknowledge other female leaders who have successfully run governments around the world and have accomplished great feats. What we are looking for here is a leader who can be sympathetic to where this country is coming from and where it is going in respect to its own communities and the larger international community. I feel Oprah knows this. Im not a huge fan or anything but I won't deny the fact that the woman is smart and knows what she is doing.
Maybe. What I wonder is how many feminists can resist the idea of breaking the gendered glass ceiling to the oval office? And how come Oprah's blackness comes out all-of-a-sudden on the campaign trail? She doesn't sound like a black preacher on her show, but she does when she's stumping for Obama. Not that I'm trying to pick on Oprah. I'm just fascinated by what her appearance as a political figure means?
I don't know if we can say she is a gender trader cause she is going for Obama. I mean Margret Thatcher was the first Prime Minister in the UK. Considering her horrible policies, supporting her would be an anti-feminist act. So for me the question is, whose policies are actually going to do more for women? For blacks? What do you think vocalero's? Maybe could Obama actually be better for women than Hillary?
