What do you think Vocalo? Was he punished too severely? Do you feel for the poor dogs? Do you think people went after him? Are we obessed with Dogs in the USA?

Our society engages in so much barbaric behavior that is never given the attention this was which is what gets to me. Maybe it was time for it to be publicized to bring attention to it and maybe Vick just happened to get caught up in the moment of this, to his detriment. It was bigger than him perhaps.
But I will add that ghettos in the US have their own standards for survival because they don't get the same things as others...it's biased from day one for most of these folk. Vick is a classic example that you can take the kid out the ghetto but not the ghetto out of the kid. And I mean the ghetto of the mind imposed by growing up that way. With all his money he still didn't have the moral background to recognize the indecency of his actions.
What is society's responsibility in crimes like this?
I agree with Navraaz and will add that to train living beings to harm each other is equally disturbing. How can you stand to cause other beings pain? To stand for animal rights or to speak up against cruelty doesn't mean we're obsessed with animals. It means some us care about those intangible things that many of us don't give much attention to-- consciousness and sensitivity.
First off, I find it very disturbing that anyone can find this to be a form of entertainment. Granted there are elements to my culture which also support animal fights, but it is truly something that I find difficult to comprehend. In fact, when I worked with children in a psychiatric hospital, that was one of the first questions asked in an assessment- has the child been showing signs of cruelty to people or animals. Many times, children who were accused of excessive violence towards others also had a history of violence towards animals. Now, I am not saying that dogs or other animals are to be obsessed over, but I do believe that there should be some sort of standard of compassion towards living beings. to be able to sit and watch anyone or anything be tortured and suffer- is not sane.
