Retired Colonel Richard Ligon, with the Indiana National Guard, issued his challenge on air at Vocalo.org to invite a veteran to Thanksgiving Day dinner.

Here's his challenge:

I'm busily working my army sources to find some suggested links for the audience. In the meantime, we have a suggestions from  wbeiers  who responded to a post from Bob Herskovitz a US Navy vet who audio blogged his 25 mile run from Glencoe to Solider Field yesterday.

wbeiers wrote: Bob, Hey, all the best to a great guy! You are setting the example and path for others to follow. Our service members and their families of past, present, and future conflicts need our support and prayers. With the difficult times we are in, the need could not be greater to remember and support these heroes. Friends of Bob and others that want to help Bob, can visit www.saluteinc.org to help our heroes and their families. Safe running my friend and fellow Team Salute member! Your friend, Will Beiersdorf Salute, Inc. www.saluteinc.org.

Tell us how it turned out. Post to Vocalo.org

Bob said he could do it and he did. Bob Herskovitz ran 25 miles from Glencoe to downtown Chicago in time for work this morning. He does this at least a few times a month. It's normally a 20 mile run but the first Gulf War vet took a detour to Solider Field in honor of Veterans Day.

His regular updates get inside a runner's mind. I thought running was a solo act but Bob picks up friends along the way.

The Do List challenged Bob to audio blog his unusual commute to work. As is our way, Bob gets to issue his own challenge to the audience

This morning, on the radio with Tom and I, Bob challenged listeners to do something to make Chicago a healthier place - then post the experience to Vocalo.org. It's pretty open so - photos, songs, hotline diaries are all welcome.

Listening to Bob run does not count.

He works for US Department of Health and Human Services, which sponsors Building a Healthier Chicago.  There are plenty of hints on the site. Bob's promising to add more links - along photos of his run.

Congrats Bob. Thanks for the run.

I needed a challenge that combined Veterans Day and the lingering warm weather.

Watch live on the Vocalo.org website Wednesday morning. Bob Herskovitz, 53, will commute 20 miles from Glencoe to downtown - on foot. He does this a few times a month, in all types of weather. Watch for live updates to his Vocalo profile, beginning around 5 a.m.

The 22 year Navy veteran was diagnosed with Gulf War syndrome. Running is one of the few distance sports he can pursue – and man he flies. He plans to make a detour to Soldier Field before 9 a.m. as a tribute to vets who cannot run themselves. If you didn’t know, Soldier Field isn't just a place for Kurt Warner to score touchdowns. It's a veterans memorial.

Listen for Bob to issue his own Vocalo Challenge for you. We'll feature it on The Do List, along with all of our other challenges.

Want a hint? You're going to have to move.

Jack Essig is the Publisher of Men's Health Magazine. He's on to discuss their upcoming "Urbanathlon" which takes place this saturday in downtown Chicago.
