Feminist Wednesday : Emily May of HollaBackNYC.com »
"It's the most everyday pervasive form of violence against women.... It's not just annoying, it's scary. And the reason that it's scary is because street harassment isn't about sex. It's about power." -Emily May, founder of HollaBackNYC.com
Molly, Nona Willis-Aronowitz, and Jack Calhoun talked with Emily on the most recent Feminist Wednesday. She talks about how women "holla back" these days: snapping that creep's picture with your cellphone and posting it on the website.
There's a HollaBackChicago too, but it's not as active as the original. (We get into why that might be during this segment, too.)
"If street harassment is OK, groping is OK. If groping is OK, beating is OK. If beating is OK, rape is OK. Violence agnst women simply isn't OK." @HollaBackNYC Twitter account, Mar. 16
Jubei from WTNR Radio stopped by to play some tunes, but also had this insane tale of a horrible bus ride.
