TRANSFORMATIONS

Today we'll be talking about transformations and all sorts of them!

At 10 am we'll be joined by Rachel Durchslag from CAASE.ORG who released a groundbreaking study last week that's been the talk of the town ever since. We've had Rachel on before talking about her organization's fight to transform the conversation about prostitution and educating and holding men accountable for ending the sex trade, but today we'll be presenting the results from her study. We'll also be joined by Olivia Howard, a survivor from the sex trade industry.

Around 11 am William B. Ross from Design For You comes by to talk about transforming the conversation about General Contractors. When many people hire a GC, there's much talk about getting referrals etc because many people have a GC "horror story". Do you? Call us and let's talk about it. 312-893-2993 is the number to call live on-air. William will be joined by Master Painter Jason Kapfer of BluChip Chicago.

Then peeps from The Windy Citizen will check in to tell us what's on their radar.

We will continue to talk about transformations later in the broadcast with Arman Razavi, independent promotion company Music-101.com owner. On Wednesday the city council will vote on the Promoter Ordinance that if passed, will mean a huge change to Chicago's vibrant arts and nightlife industry. Talk about tranformations! Many fear this could flatline in one fell swoop thousands of careers and businesses. What are they thinking?

We hope to find out if we can get someone from the Mayor's office on the phone to discuss before Wednesday's council vote.

Price Gouging? Vocalo.org is giving you the goods!

Video

We've got music *LIVE* music in the studio today. Hoosier Jay Weinberg aka Epoch Apostle will be in telling us how his gas prices protest song was heard around the world. He'll be playing an acoustic set as well. He's coming with friends...and if you don't know the story, read the reprint from the Post Tribune below:

May 6, 2008

By Jane Huh Post-Tribune staff writer

A Valparaiso man with a megaphone and a dislike for rising gasoline prices drew a crowd of onlookers and local law enforcement to the corner of Silhavy Road and LaPorte Avenue during Monday's commute.

Armed with an acoustic guitar and a megaphone, Jay Weinberg, 29, scaled to the top of Family Express' roof where he sang "Price Gouge'n," his protest against high gasoline prices. The price of gas there was $3.78 a gallon.

Supporting him were dozens of supporters who chanted: "I can't afford it. I'm banging on my dashboard. I can't believe they think I'm a fool."

The performance lasted about 15 minutes before three Valparaiso police officers arrived and arrested Weinberg for criminal trespassing and disorderly conduct. Police said Weinberg was cooperative.

The crowd, made up of Weinberg's friends and those who happened to be pumping gas, continued singing. Then, some, including his wife, Danielle, drove to Porter County Jail to bail him out. Weinberg left the building around 7:30 p.m and was greeted with cheers.

The incident came on the eve of today's primary election. Democratic presidential candidates Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton have different opinions about how to offer gas price relief. Clinton has proposed a gas tax holiday this summer, but Obama criticized her proposal saying it's an unsound plan and a pandering ploy.

Bobby Schaefer-Murray, Weinberg's friend, said the event was not politically driven. However, he and others are opposed to Clinton's gas tax holiday proposal. For more information about the protest and to hear "Price Gouge'n," go to www.gasolinesong.com

Correspondent Diane Kubiak contributed to this story.

An Update from artist CRO aka Ray Noland

Image

Ray Noland is the artist behind gotellmama.org who came to visit the studios for an interview with me months ago (we've been re-playing elements from that interview as well as the Obama inspired music he turned us on to) and has been touring the country making stops in places where Obama is campaigning.

It was so wild because i was watching the evening news (i think it was ABC) and they were showing Obama in NC on Tuesday and I looked up just in time to see Obama shaking the hand of Ray!

That was great...and then today he sent out an update...and now I know my eyes were not deceiving me. I thought I'd share it with you my Vocalo.org fam.

Greetings,
This has been a week full of the highest of highs and a few lows. I'm happy to say the highs are winning. We finally met Barack & Michelle a few days ago. What an experience! They unexpectedly stopped into our make-shift gallery on Tuesday before their big primary win. A big thanks to everyone who got out and voted on Tuesday. Barack Obama pulled away with a major win and more momentum. If you are in the Raleigh area this weekend, please stop by the GoTellMama! INDIANA: YOU MUST REGISTER BY TODAY TO VOTE IN THE PRIMARY!

REGISTER TO VOTE IN INDIANA TODAY!!!

EDITED by Darlene from a letter from Barackobama.com

Right now, you can help bring more voices into the political process.

To participate in Indiana's primary, voters must be registered by this Monday, April 7th.

Tens of thousands of potential voters may not be registered yet, and we need to act quickly to reach out to as many of them as possible.

Each call you make could be another vote for democracy in an area where help is needed the most.

Use our online phonebanking tool, and start calling Indiana supporters now:

http://my.barackobama.com/call

Registering voters is more than just an important part of our campaign strategy -- it's what our movement is all about.

If we can reach more people in Indiana, we can make a lasting impact and win victories for the Democratic Party up and down the ballot in November.

All across the country, volunteers will be making calls into Indiana to tell potential supporters about the deadline and encourage them to register.

REGISTER TO VOTE IN INDIANA TODAY!!!
