"Parody is a way to break down the master's house with our tools and rebuild it..."
In the Border Jump Off Short Film series, Ricardo Gamboa, Giovanni Vargas, and Heather Morowitz parody pop culture as they critique immigration policies in the U.S.
While using familiar pop culture references make the short films easy to relate to, Ricardo Gamboa explains that making accessible media means going beyond that. The process matters as much as the product.
All the short films in the series are made in a collaborative, non-hierarchal style with a mix of professional and community actors. (Including a lot of Gamboas.)
