The Tribune's Neil Steinberg recently wrote about the sad number of qualified SANE nurses in Illinois hospitals. SANE nurses are those trained to examine and collect evidence from rape victims. Both Sarah Leyden and Sharmili Majmudar, the Director for Advocacy Services and and Executive Director of Rape Victim Advocates joined us in studio this Feminist Wednesday to talk about the growing program and the Violence Against Women Act, a bill that's renewal has stalled in the Senate. The first clip follows our discussion of the SANE program and the second clip follows our discussion of the legislation.

requirements for sane

Hello, I am a new grad nurse who wants to be a sane nurse.
It's upsetting that its required that I must have 2 years nursing experience.
I am a hospital advocate out of five hospitals. I understand that its a specialized certificate, however what does nursing experience have to being a sane nurse. I get more experience working with rape victims than most nurses. I am willing to get the training and take the test. If theres such a need for sane nurses make it
It avaible to nurses like me. Don't be upset at the er doctors and er nurses for not having the expertise in collecting evidence, blame the states requirements. There are nurses out there that want the training.
