Want to know what was poppin' this week on Vocalo and beyond?  The Selector knows!

  • It was a busy week in Studio 11, with Brendan O'Connell of The Right Now and legendary poet and MC Malik Yusef dropping by The Music Vox to chat with host Jesse Menendez.  The Right Now are hitting the stage at the Double Door on Friday, Dec 3rd, as part of the Chicago Bluegrass and Blues Festival, while Malik Yusef has been popping up everywhere lately from a record with John Legend and The Roots to an appearance alongside Kanye on JYJ's latest.
  • Anyone who checked out Adam Fitz's appearance on Live From Studio 10 this week will know The Right Now aren't the only game in town when it comes to soulful sounds.  Adam brought his band down to tear it up in the studio and get people worked up for their show this Friday, Dec 3rd, at The Hideout.
  • This week on Gowhere Hip Hop, Maks and Tibs reacted to The Department of Homeland Security's decision to seize 82 domain names as part of their anti-piracy efforts.  They also had a feature-length interview with Chicago's own Paypa (you might know him best from "Black and Red," his remix of Wiz Khalifa's "Black and Yellow").  The up and coming MC talked about surviving controversy and the discipline that lets him keep his grind on.
  • Sound Opinions featured their yearly Thanksgiving Turkey Shoot - you can hear Jim and Greg carve up 2010's most disappointing records right here.
  • Speaking of turkey, we can only assume that Tony Sarabia's absence from his hosting duties on Radio M was due to some sort of turkey-induced coma.  Allison Cuddy from Eight Forty-Eight stepped up and delivered a killer set of world music in his absence - you can check out her selections here.
  • Eight Forty-Eight also brought some goods to the musical table this week with a performance and interview from ragtime pianist Reginald Robinson and a DJ set of heavy hitting gospel beats from DJ LA*JESUS.
  • Finally, Global Notes featured a profile on Mauritanian singer/musician/activist/politician Malouma.  She grew up surrounded by poverty and political unrest in a very conservative Muslim country, but defied convention by singing about love and divorce from a woman's perspective.  She's been a controversial and polarising figure in her homeland which lead to the country's miltary government to ban her music in the 1990s.  In 2007 - as part of Mauritania's first democratic elections during her lifetime - Malouma was elected the country's first female senator.  It's an inspiring story and some amazing music, so be sure to check it out.
